Against the advice of friends and family members, Daron decided to burn his law firm offers ($150,000 in compensation) and chase a career in football coaching. 31 rejection letters later, Daron landed an internship with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Roberts holds two expensive degrees from Harvard and was elected Student Body President as an undergraduate at the University of Texas - the largest public university in the United States.
He is a contributor to Forbes.com, and his articles have appeared in The Dallas Morning News, Fortune, Houston Chronicle, Texas CEO Magazine and Time.
In the fall before his third year at Harvard Law School, Roberts decided to pursue a career in football coaching and wrote letters to college and professional football teams. The Kansas City Chiefs offered Roberts a training camp internship.
He leveraged that unpaid position into an assistant coach position. From Kansas City, Roberts went on to coach with the Detroit Lions, West Virginia Mountaineers and Cleveland Browns.
Today Daron serves as founding director of the Center for Sports Leadership & Innovation (CSLi) at the University of Texas. As a lecturer at the University of Texas, he focuses on issues of leadership and innovation in the sports arena.
He developed a course – A Gameplan for Winning at Life – that is taught to incoming freshmen student-athletes at the University of Texas. During the course of each academic year, Roberts teaches nearly 300 students.
Roberts has been recognized by the World Economic Forum as a Young Global Leader for creating a nonprofit football camp - 4th and 1, Inc. 4th and 1 provides free SAT prep, life skills development and football training to at-risk youth. The camp has served nearly 500 student-athletes since 2010.
Daron serves as CEO and Founder of 4th and 1, Inc. 4th and 1 is the only free football camp in North America that combines life skills development and SAT/ACT prep with football training and mentorship. The camps are held in Texas, Michigan and Florida and has served over 400 young men.
Roberts works as a facilitator for the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation Leadership Development Institute. The Coca-Cola Scholarship is the premiere scholarship program for exceptional high school students. The Foundation has awarded over $50 million since 1989. Roberts was awarded a Coca-Cola Scholarship in 1997.
Appointed in March of 2014, Daron serves as an At-Large Representative on the Texas Exes Council. The Council helps to govern the activities and outreach of the Texas Exes and has a membership of nearly 100,000 alumni.
The Presidential Leadership Scholars program – a joint venture between Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush – tabbed Roberts as a Presidential Leadership Scholar for 2015. He was one of 60 members in the inaugural class.
Selected as one of four "Outstanding Young Texas Exes" in 2011, Roberts received the highest distinction for Texas alumni under 39.
Daron was selected as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2014. He was one of 214 young leaders chosen by the WEF. The class represents 66 countries.
